A tragic incident in Assam’s Boko area has sent shockwaves through the local community after three women were fatally struck by a speeding train on Monday morning. The victims were reportedly on their routine morning walk near Bamunigaon Railway Station when the accident occurred, highlighting a grave and recurring issue of pedestrian safety along railway tracks in the region.
Eyewitnesses recounted a horrifying scene, stating that the three women were walking when two trains crossed the section at the same time. Unbeknownst to the victims, a Guwahati-bound train approached from behind and struck them with immense force near a level crossing gate. The impact was immediate and fatal, killing all three on the spot, leaving no chance for survival.
Following the accident, a large crowd of residents gathered at the site, describing the scene as gruesome and devastating. Police were immediately dispatched to the location to secure the area and launch a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy. The bodies were recovered and sent for a post-mortem examination as part of the official procedure.
The victims were identified as Uttara Das (50), Rumi Das (35), and Karabi Mali (35). All three were residents of the nearby Chatabari village. Their families and the entire community are in a state of deep shock and mourning over the sudden and tragic loss of life.
This accident, unfortunately, is not an isolated event. According to railway officials, the Kamakhya–Jogighopa line has witnessed a grim series of similar tragedies in recent times, with at least 20 people losing their lives. This alarming statistic has once again brought to the forefront the urgent need for stricter safety measures and increased public awareness regarding the dangers of walking near active railway lines.
